About BADEINSO

The Social Indicators and Statistics Database (BADEINSO, from its Spanish acronym) was developed for < http://www.eclac.cl/redesa>REDESA, the Network of Institutions and Experts in Social and Environmental Statistics, as a support mechanism for the production and enhancement of social statistics in Latin American and Caribbean countries.

BADEINSO gathers data, estimates and projections from various international organizations, as well as information from censuses and household surveys supplied by national statistical systems. Data is presented through the thematic organization of various topics of interest to researchers concerned with the standards of living and the social structures of countries of the region.
For more information, or if you have any question or comment about this database, please send an email to < mailto:badeinso@cepal.org>badeinso@cepal.org.
Contents

BADEINSO presents data on the following topics: Demography, Education, Health, Housing, Employment, Wages, Poverty and income distribution, Economy, and the Millennium Development Goals.
Each topic is composed of a variety of indicators. In turn, each indicator corresponds to a set of data of the same nature, measurement unit, methodology, periodicity, and source, as specified in the technical notes.

Please note that data coming from international sources are usually not strictly comparable with those produced by countries since different sources apply different definitions, classifications and calculation procedures.
BADEINSO provides:
-More than 130 indicators summarizing the past and present social evolution of the 33 Latin American and Caribbean ECLAC member countries, as well as that of 7 non-independent, associate member Caribbean territories. < http://websie.eclac.cl/sisgen/Sisgen_badeinso.asp#nota>
-Homogeneous methodological estimates that facilitate obtaining regional and sub-regional aggregates, as well as comparisons among countries.
-Historical data series beginning in 1950, although some data -particularly those that come from household surveys- are available only from more recent years.
-Technical notes (produced without formal editing) with definitions, methodology, breakdowns, information sources and comments on each indicator.
-A data query system that allows users to get data for the periods, countries and breakdowns needed.
-Excel worksheets that provide the results of the data query.
-Line graphs and histograms that can be constructed on the basis of results of data queries in HTML.
-Links to databases and web pages with data on social indicators produced by Latin American and Caribbean countries.
